((submitted a video titled "Die Taliban Die"... the phrase "die M*F* die" was repeated over and over again...))
I agree with the pulling of such a video - definitely in bad taste.
((At Netscape, we do not censor user submitted content based on our own personal biases or whims))
I think this is the question that most people have asked.
((We do pull down user submitted content that is deemed by a significant sample of our members as offensive, in terms of language or theme))
I think this is good policy, when used very judiciously.
((A video that advocates the killing of any person or group fits the definition of "offensive" for a significant sample of our users))
Funny that video is posted all over the place of al Qaeda telling obedient Muslims to kill Americans... I know that it is offensive for those poor Americans who will suffer the consequences of getting their heads sawed off - but they don't seem to complain much.
In my own mind, I am still wrestling with the wording why al Qaeda video killing Americans is OK while the military forces killing Taliban video is not... perhaps someone can explain it to me.
It is hypocritical for any group to find only one type of video as offensive enough to pull, in my opinion. The issue is wrestling with the hypocrisy so all people understand that all video like this is offensive.
For that reason alone, I think that posting it and dialog is important or censoring all such videos with a comment (i.e. video deleted because it adovcated wholesale killing of xyz) and allowing the people to comment accordingly.
DavidHalko, when al Qaeda releases a video like that, it is a news event. If al Qaeda were to submit a video to Netscape calling for people to be killed it would be just as much in breach of the terms of use.
“In my own mind, I am still wrestling with the wording why al Qaeda video killing Americans is OK while the military forces killing Taliban video is not... perhaps someone can explain it to me” AND TO ME TOO!
I could not agree more and I have seen several videos made available by your "bi-partisan" editors showing Americans being killed in the most aggrieves manners yet you had no problem with that. You cannot distinguish words from actions particularly when it is showing Americans being beheaded, I’ll take mother fu**er anyday over your postings of Americans being killed.
Your anti-war agenda shines brightly on this blog and your staff should be removed and replaced by at least a good mix of political views to replace the far left views your staff like most media today demonstrates daily.
There were two other videos posted by other users containing the same language you say the one in question used. After numerous complaints, neither one has been pulled. And the article pulled did talk about netscape's very visible anchor bias, and you have just proved the comments true.
Thanks for the chain of events. I'd say the most disturbing element to this situation is how the person attempted to use the anger associated with Netscape's relaunch over the summer by associating it with their current TOU complaints. An incredibily toxic action to take for a simple and personal TOU violation.
What's cool is that the Netscape relaunch anger did not materilize when trolled for effect. Kudos to the Netscape community for not falling for this person's attempts to stir up an old contraversy to fuel a tiny flame.
AT LAST - This device, hands down, is the technological advance of the decade. With the ability to rewind all formats from all manufacturers DVD technology leaps light years ahead. One can only hope consumer device makers like Sony, Hitachi, Panasonic, Phillips, JVC and the rest will license this for inclusion in their players and recorders. KUDOS

So, Neophile, ACTUAL snuff films are okay, [al Qaeda video killing Americans,] but advocating killing those who produce snuff films is not? I would call you a moral midget, but that would be an insult to little people. Wouldn't a better username for you be necrophile?

I watched the video in question and I reported it for being in breach of the Netscape terms of use. It was text-book hate speech.
