Netscape Tip: Clear Your Cookies and Cache

At Netscape, we're constantly rolling out new features, tweaks, and bug fixes. Sometimes this means daily updates to the site and sometimes it means we're updating the site even more often. One of the things that tends to happen after a major update is that the memory your web browser keeps of how your browser thinks the site is supposed to work doesn't match up with the actual new and improved way that the site works. This can cause what is technically known as "general wonkiness."

Having personally worked in technical support for many years in the past, I'm always ready to hand out a bit of maintenance advice to our members who are having trouble. However, as I've been handing out this bit of information much more often than I'd like, I thought I'd share the information as a tip here.

If Netscape starts misbehaving for you, try these steps:

1. Empty your cache (depending upon your browser, you will find the ability to empty your cache file under your Preferences, your Internet Options, or your Settings).

2. Delete your cookies. You don't have to delete all of them. You can just find the Netscape-related cookies and delete them.

3. Relaunch your browser.

4. Log back in to Netscape and see if everything is better.

If these tips don't help, please feel free to message me or any other member of the Netscape team with your problems. Also know that the developers are aware of the current heavy footprint of our cookies and are working towards a solution that will make this little bit of every-so-often maintenance unnecessary.

Do I just follow the instructions you gave on cookies or do something else?

I use netscape 7.2, what problems do I face if I don't go to 8.X? I use 7.2 on 2 different computers running XP and I am getting different results.

Dump bloated Netscape browser. Use FIREFOX. I changed months ago and glad I did.

I absolutely adore Netscape and always have. You guys are absolutely great and in my opinion have the best browser out there. That said, How dare you add subliminal messages to your frontpage? I have a program running on my computer that sends subliminal messages to me which I program to do so. I am specifically doing a experiment with that and with the sound that goes with it. You are doing the most invasive horrific act that I have ever in my life thought someone would do. I can tell you this much. I own a newsgroup with 2600 members and I will make very sure that they know about this. On top of that I am switching to IE7 today, it is going to be a royal pain in the behind with all the pop ups but I figure Norton Internet Security will cure that. How could you? I had faith in your company, I supported you since day 1 and now you put this junk on your homepage, what horrible betrayal.

Although I can't recall the first version of Netscape I used (maybe even before 3.x), I have always been pleased. Now on a iMacG5 OS 10.3.9 I am still trying to use Netscape 7.2. Freezes are quite common, though restarting does usually get me where I am going. One I cannot seem to get around, is that MyNetscape Content does not reliably provide current information. Weather is still showing Aug. '06 data even though I have edited the page content. And the Financial section often requires 5 or more reloads to get the data to display.

I sure hope you have some help for me!

When you say, "If these tips don't help, please feel free to message me or any other member..." I don't have a clue how to "message" someone. I am not really a neophyte user, but I think you are assuming too much. right now I have not been able to log into my Netscape mail since Dec. 12 midday. I have tried from mulitple machines, browers and hosts. I always get "Invalid screen name or password. Please try again." Well, that does not work. the "I forgot my password" system does not work, beacuse I obviously KNOW my password.

Of course, it will do no good to reply to my netscape address, because I can't log in!

HELP!

I've cleared cache and cookies but the weather city temperatures in the My.Netscape home page is still stuck on 2006/8/17 as the last update. I depend heaving on these weather updates. I've aslso been asked about this by other users and clearing their cookies and cache didn't work either. I upgraded all Netscapes to Ver 8.1.x but still no luck.

This is really annoying.

once again you tweek and something goes wrong. sometime after noon on 01/03/07 i lost all my bookmarks because your netscape thought i had just downloaded netscape 7.2 and the profile manager wouldn't let me in by the time i did all my bookmarks were gone and i can't get them back. some are business related and are VERY important. most are not but that isn't the point. my email is also letting junk through and sending regular emais into spam.ther is a saying i know you've heard if it isn't broke don't fix it. well you are doing a good job at breaking it. this is also the third email with no response

day two and still no bookmarks. i guess you guys lost your copy of "computer programming for dummies" again. shame that aol put people in charge of a browser who do first then try to fix. oh wait they just don't respond then tell you it's your fault and they don't know anything

OK guys. I've been using Netscape since it started. I've tried every new rendition and I'm currently using versio 7.2. The "My Netscape" page says that you guys are rebuilding the my netscape page and to check back. I keep checking back, but I miss all of the features that I had set up to my personal choices. I, like many others have the latest version of Firefox, the latest version of I.E. but I've always stayed with netscape. Now it feels like AOL/Netscape is driving me away towards I.E. I'm trying to be patient but it's been weeks. How Loooong?
