I love it the way it is. Those who object to alternative news or the participatory atmosphere should change their homepages to MSN, Yahoo or any of the other ho-hum news sources that abound. Just because one has Netscape mail doesn't mean one has to get one's news here. Netscape.com is the ONLY place of its kind. I agree that childish partisan bickering is a waste of time, and I don't blame Netscape for trying to find a way to keep provocative stories from dominating. The elections have pushed other important items into oblivion, so I've lately resorted to posting in other categories, which, it seems no one ever looks at. In light of this, I guess I prefer your second option. But PLEASE don't become just another site that spoonfeeds widely-accessible stories to its members. And don't stop the comments; a lot of enlightening diagloue can be found amidst the dross.
The current homepage you have developed is total nonsense.
Have you folks ever heard the phrase:
"If it's NOT BROKEN, don't fix it!"
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the way it was before.
If you want to tinker on something go play on your car in YOUR
driveway! But RETURN our Netscape to the way it used to be.
If you want readers comments find someplace else to put them, but NOT on
the home page.
Does anyone have any suggestions for other portal pages that are similar to the old netscape
Loved the old; the new just gets in my way when I'm checking my email.
I have been using netscapemas my home page for over ten years and i must say that this new version is one of the worst ideas that I have ever come across. The people who thought of this new version should be shot for supidity. People used netscape because they liked the way it looked, as the old saying goes :if its ot broke why fix it.' Maybe you at netsacape should consider that. and return netscape back to the way we all loved and liked it and what kept us to stay with netsecape and noit go else where.
Currently, there are many annoying trashy articles presented -- otally off the wall and without value. God only knows how you select them. Let us know what is going on in the world today without bias. Just report the news. Thanks!
I really would like to have the old netscape back. it was user frendly and so much faster.
If i want news i will watch tv.
I think that the blog home page experience is totally cool and refreshing!!
I have not liked the "new" Netscape and I do not waste my time looking at it. As soon as it opens, I go to a traditional news site such as Fox or CNN.I want straight news without the juvenile commentary and the left wing slant to the stories.
I vent frequently on this site, mostly to the choir, but it does help me organize my thoughts on various issues and get a feeling what the "other side" might be thinking. If someone objects to the comment aspect of the articles presented the answer would seem obvious...don't read them. I do like being able to view the eclectic news items presented from all over the planet. All portal sites seem to have their share of fluff (who's breaking up with who, etc) and this site is no exception but I do think it has much merit and deserves the chance to evolve and change and possibly turn into a viable source of information and community input. Whew!
I prefer the old Netscape home page, before you asked people to submit what they thought was the biggest news of the day. Now the news can be slanted by someone posting something taken out of context like Kerry's botched joke. Kerry was telling the truth it was a botched joke, only 90% of us didn't know that for a day or two due to someone posting only the last portion of Kerry's comments. So give me CNN or any other news service and not a lot of Blog crap!
I have to agree with what appears to be the majority. The old Netscape was better. Specifically, I strongly dislike having some idiot tilting articles to what he/she believes. Just stick to the news and let us decide what to think. Second, kill those stupid blinking ads - I would never click on one just because the blinking looks a lot like SPAM or something like it. Again, present the ads normally. If I want to know more, I'll click on it. Otherwise, I won't.
Before "the new Netscape" I never used Internet Explorer. Now I use it over half the time - just go back to what was working and I'll be back.
Thanks,
I would like to see the old face of Netscape coming back again. I liked to browse on it. I am not interested on what people comment about the news I prefer to have an opinion of my own about the news, If I want to see other people's opinion I would go to a news group.
About the left bar and the flashing ads, they are the worst!
Why not let the users pick the algorithm used to propagate stories for THEIR version of the home page. Better yet, why not let the users tinker with the algorithm, publish it, and let other users vote for story propagation algorithms.
The most popular algorithm is shown to anonymous users, and could be moderated by the anchors.

I really do not like either of the new ideas. The old netscape was much better and less juvenile. I am old enough to judge the news for myself and find that I have to go to other sites to keep up with mainstream news. The new pages also make it more difficult to the other tools I used on a regular basis, weather, maps etc. Please return to the old form before you lose many more followers. Thanks
