Why do you think you need update? Netscape now looks great. May be some icons on top as yahoo do have. Simplicity is a key, look at the google homepage.

I hate the new Netscape home page. I never read it. Bring back the old one; I read that every day.
I continue to follow the progress of Netscape with great interest. It is now my home page. Interesting post with some interesting options. hometest1 is my current favorite, but if I had my preference, I would like to be able to switch from one to the other depending on what I wanted to see.
Tech is getting further and further integrated into other aspects of daily life. What n00bs tag "Tech", I might tag something more mundane.
First variant has my vote.
I don't particularly care for either of the new variant of netscape...I liked the old version much better. I have always prefered netscape to explorer because it was easier to navigate through, and it just functioned better. I guess the old saying is true: "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it!" there was nothing wrong with the old way.
I love the new Netscape. The new defaults should even make it better.
I prefer something like what I have on "My MSN," as it sets the news before me from those sites I have named (This constitutes "My MSN>") Consequently, I usually spend more time with "My MSN" than with Netscape. I like your browser; however, I am very fond of getting my news and stories from MSN.
I have the same feelings as some of the other respondents; that is, I care very little what the "hoi poloi" think when it comes to the major events of the day. I want to know what the essayists and opinion writers who staff our major newspapers have to say about these issues. They have earned my respect and I have a feeling who it is that is critiqing today's events for my consideration.
Thank you for providing this space for my views and taking under advisement what your readers are thingking!
Merle
I want my old Netscape back, is there any way to find it so I can make it my homepage again! I too may stop Netscape from being where I start my day!
I believe in what you're trying to do, I just don't think your implementation is all that good. Putting a frame around external links? How frikking mid 90's is that? Seriously, get some design and usability people in here.
Meanwhile, is it possible that the homepage of netscape wasn't the best place to so publicly make all your startup-esque mistakes? But then I suppose you wouldn't have any visitors at all, given the clunkiness of this interface.
Go back to the old Netscape home page or something like it. I hate the version you have now. Do not use any of it!
I have no problem with either choice but would like to know why it does not fill the page....
NEW NESTSCAPE STINKS, GO BACK TO THE OLD STLYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the new netscape is just a ripoff of digg
you alienated your userbase when you removed what they were used to and replaced it with a digg clone
I think a better alternative would be to do what you do on the side for the main section. I like it when the news is more clearly bucketed. If the main section could show the top 3 articles from each section then I can scan the front more efficiently to just look for news in the area that I'm interested in (right now I have to read the tiny text that says what section the article is in). But if I had to choose between the 2, I'd probably lean towards the 2nd one.

I think the second choice of the above (ie. one from each channel) has potential. Checking your example, I noted what had already occurred to me. That is , why not the single article with a prominent notation of the number of articles also available on that channel. Then you have a top teaser plus options, etc.
Hopefully your changes will not include fast deletions as sometimes the editors don't see the differences in the articles. This might also negate the sometimes obvious bias. When the editor controls the newspaper that is his job. When it occurs in this type of publication, it destroys the concept. Perhaps to limit the basic rant that can be seen in the political channel, a simple choice box, such as agree/disagree, with a counter, could be added. This might leave room for more thoughtful discourse.
