I prefer the old Netscape home page, before you asked people to submit what they thought was the biggest news of the day. Now the news can be slanted by someone posting something taken out of context like Kerry's botched joke. Kerry was telling the truth it was a botched joke, only 90% of us didn't know that for a day or two due to someone posting only the last portion of Kerry's comments. So give me CNN or any other news service and not a lot of Blog crap!
I would like to see the old face of Netscape coming back again. I liked to browse on it. I am not interested on what people comment about the news I prefer to have an opinion of my own about the news, If I want to see other people's opinion I would go to a news group.
About the left bar and the flashing ads, they are the worst!
I liked the old Netscape better and either alternative shown is better than what it is now. I like commenting on the news, but don't like the leftist bias. Would like to be able to vote against stories to lower their position.
Main gripe is that my e-mail address is NOT aim.com and in sending e-mails it automatically defaults there. I want outgoing mail to be from netscape.net so it won't be blocked by the receiver and I resent having to click to go back to netscape.net from aim.com every time I send an e-mail.
The flickering screen on entering the homepage is extremely annoying too It is also dangerous to anyone with epilepsy. Please stop it.
I have to agree with what appears to be the majority. The old Netscape was better. Specifically, I strongly dislike having some idiot tilting articles to what he/she believes. Just stick to the news and let us decide what to think. Second, kill those stupid blinking ads - I would never click on one just because the blinking looks a lot like SPAM or something like it. Again, present the ads normally. If I want to know more, I'll click on it. Otherwise, I won't.
Before "the new Netscape" I never used Internet Explorer. Now I use it over half the time - just go back to what was working and I'll be back.
Thanks,
I think the second choice of the above (ie. one from each channel) has potential. Checking your example, I noted what had already occurred to me. That is , why not the single article with a prominent notation of the number of articles also available on that channel. Then you have a top teaser plus options, etc.
Hopefully your changes will not include fast deletions as sometimes the editors don't see the differences in the articles. This might also negate the sometimes obvious bias. When the editor controls the newspaper that is his job. When it occurs in this type of publication, it destroys the concept. Perhaps to limit the basic rant that can be seen in the political channel, a simple choice box, such as agree/disagree, with a counter, could be added. This might leave room for more thoughtful discourse.
Why do you think you need update? Netscape now looks great. May be some icons on top as yahoo do have. Simplicity is a key, look at the google homepage.

I hate the new Netscape home page. I never read it. Bring back the old one; I read that every day.
The Netscape page should reflect reporting the events of the day. Provide a link to the comments page and community forums. Please wipe out the flashing ads!
I continue to follow the progress of Netscape with great interest. It is now my home page. Interesting post with some interesting options. hometest1 is my current favorite, but if I had my preference, I would like to be able to switch from one to the other depending on what I wanted to see.
Tech is getting further and further integrated into other aspects of daily life. What n00bs tag "Tech", I might tag something more mundane.
First variant has my vote.
I don't particularly care for either of the new variant of netscape...I liked the old version much better. I have always prefered netscape to explorer because it was easier to navigate through, and it just functioned better. I guess the old saying is true: "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it!" there was nothing wrong with the old way.
I'm glad to discover that netscape is trying to regain its sanity from the insane forum that it is now. I too use netscape now only for my email and non-essential www browsing. Sad as I knew of no other brother since the first time I click a computer mouse 11 year ago. Can't say I did'nt try to join the forum- but freading the filth that some of these commenters spew on whomever disagrees with them - plus the wise cracks of the not so wise ones- what does a reader get--- a pile of "*".
the other day AIM messed my email (i'm not sure it works now??} almost ended my patience. I proudly say that I have personeally campaigned amongtst my friends and acquaintances to move over to Netscape and escape the "evil empires IE", but what have I done???
Guys you've done a great job!! Do me proud "sil vous plais"
I have no problem with either choice but would like to know why it does not fill the page....
I love the new Netscape. The new defaults should even make it better.

I vent frequently on this site, mostly to the choir, but it does help me organize my thoughts on various issues and get a feeling what the "other side" might be thinking. If someone objects to the comment aspect of the articles presented the answer would seem obvious...don't read them. I do like being able to view the eclectic news items presented from all over the planet. All portal sites seem to have their share of fluff (who's breaking up with who, etc) and this site is no exception but I do think it has much merit and deserves the chance to evolve and change and possibly turn into a viable source of information and community input. Whew!
