Do No Evil

Every so often at Netscape, we get a message asking, "What's up with the Do No Evil Channel?"

The concept behind the Do No Evil Channel, originally, was to post really good, even saintly, stories about people or companies out there in the world trying to make a positive difference for us all, juxtaposed with posts about downright evil and wrong actions by others. Do No Evil was supposed to be a place to shame those who were engaged in shameful acts and applaud those who were doing good in the world.

We see some of that in the channel, but recently, several members have been using the channel to post bits of humor and humorous videos.

So we're wondering, should we continue down the road of good and evil with the Do No Evil Channel and open a separate Humor Channel? Should we in some way reinvent Do No Evil as Good vs. Evil or Good and Evil? Or should we end this Channel and replace it with others?

Let us know what you think. What channels do you like and which new ones would you like to see?

While it's always nice to have something a little bit different, a little bit of an inside joke that is not exactly inside, the problem is really whether the average user knows what is going on.

If the average user knows what the do no evil channel is about with little investigation, then the channel is doing its job. However, if users constantly have to visit an faq or ask a Navigator or Site Help what that channel is for, then perhaps it is a bit too ambiguous.

The main problem that it could pose would be if people post items to that channel that better fit elsewhere. Since you guys do a fairly good job at removing dupes, this would be the only channel to find that item. However, if that item better belonged in another channel, then users looking for it would keep finding themselves in dead ends because the item was not categorized properly. If this happens often, then the channel is far more of a hindrance than it is worth.

However, a humor channel sounds like a fairly good idea either way.

Please keep the Do No Evil Channel. It is a great way to learn about those in the world that are actualy trying to make a positive difference. It is also nice to learn about those that aren't so nice and be able to make an educated decision on whether my actions in supporting a product or person is well founded.

I am running the Biker thread on bikers and the Patriot Guard in this thread sort of inaccordance with your original intentions for the thread. I would prefer you to start a new humor channel, and leave this thread in tact. Maybe you should think about retitling it along the lines of "Doing Good Deeds"

I think you should keep the Do Not Evil channel, although it may not always have the right content intended for it. Being from Digg, I know there is always one or two categories (channels) that serve as a submission "catch-all". Do No Evil seems to catch all the stories that don't seem to fit into another channel.

I think the Do No Evil channel is a little ambiguous. Maybe it should be changed to Good Vs. Evil, or Good and Evil. I also think there should be a humor channel, we can always use a good laugh.

Jeff is very upset with Detective Bill Zimmerman for
doubting him. Mr. Zimerman insulted Agent Bellami
and the agent has a temper unlike Mr. Fisher who is

Jeff told me he lived just behind the Oakdale Mall. He
said he used to ride a friends dirt bike, Honda and/or
Kawasaki, in the hills before they made it into the mall.
That was in the late 60's early 70's.

His name back then was Jeffrey Joseph Rogoff. Jeff had
intentionally failed courses to conceal how bright he was.

The pastor met Jeff last Sunday prior to church. The pastor service
talked about many things including all about the power of the Internet.
One of the ushers was having a hissy fit because Jeff was calling overseas

The usher just doesn't understand that anyone can spread the word, not
just the pastor. Jeff walked out of the church and called his friend Jeremy
and talked about God for more than 30 minutes. His friend understands
what Jeff represents. I can't' yet because I am Jewish but I know he is

new father who wants to adopt him lives. Somebody

help donate to this mans quest for exposing the truth
about our elections and ending this war overseas and the
fake war on terror that has escalated into a real one thanks

Greer lives not far from where Coretta Scott King used to live.
God Bless her soul. The firm is just taking there sweet time. They
have no idea how much money they can make. At least 100 million
dollars could be the settlement. They want 37%. Jeff says that's usury
so he offered them 44% instead and they still are not reacting.
How arrogant can they get? The case is based upon a security officer
throwing steaming hot coffee in Jeff's face which was captured on
security cameras and many of the people in the complex know all
about it.

The good thing is Jeff 7left for Florida this morning for Sarasota
around seven7 to some protest about this past election. He said
the election has to be redone because of what the FBI agent

David's dad, Jeff, used to spend time in his bedroom at night helping
him fall asleep. Then he would go see his daughter Jamie Irene sleeping
in her bed. So he would go hold her hand and just watch her breath in
the air. Jeff couldn't stand to be away from his children but he had a
campaign to run mainly by himself since his wife and family were adamantly
against him running for Congress as were most of the Democrats in

For some reason they loved to complain about things against
Mark Foley but they never wanted him to lose any election.
Anyone who stood up against AIPAC always got harmed in
some way or another. Someone should contact Jean Elliott Brown
from the 2002 election and find out what Mark Foley was holding
over her in that race.

Jeff told me that she and her son told him on the phone in 2003
about some kind of blackmail he used against her close to the
November 2002 General Election.
