I'm terrified of AOL Malware and options I don't want contaminating my Browser. Lack of intergrated mail is quite disappointing, too.
The merger was the beginning of the end...
Congrats ! Hope Navigator will recover some popularity with this new release !
Since most of you are disappointed that Netscape 9 does not have a built in e-mail client, and are sticking with Netscape 7 because of that, you should upgrade to SeaMonkey. It works in much the same way as Netscape 7, and all components are kept up to date. Sticking with Netscape 7 as your browser leaves you vulnerable to all it's security holes. These holes will not be patched, as this version is now obsolete and is no longer maintained by Netscape.
After reading all the comments above, what surprises me most is the way the Netscape Team went about developing their new browser.
If I were in their shoes, I would have posted an open invitation for all existing Netscape Browser users to send ideas and comments for a new and improved version. I would have even given them a template to enter their suggestions and ideas. This would have made it easy to collate and organize the ideas into a wish list and then explored the ways to incorporate them into the new browser.
Nobody can give you better input than the people who are using it!
I think the thing to watch will be how often do they put out updates, as Firefox puts out updates. One of the main reasons I stayed away from Netscape 8 was the delay between Firefox updates and how long it took Netscape to put out a new version based around the new Firefox which usually contained several security updates. In this day an age of insecurity and flaws browser companies have to be on top of their game to keep their product secure. Cheers.
NS 9beta [v.1]. Not so bad so far!. The only thing Beta 8 had going for it: "was looks"!. Nothing ever worked correctly,at Version 8. I am trying this(Fire Fox v2.0. AND Netscape v.9beta[1]). Between Fire Fox v2 and NS 9beta v1, , Seem to have close to everything (Plus) In The Browsers!. Still USE NetScape version 7.2 For a Primary!. Yes! Just what I need Three[3] Browser to Partially take the place of One[1]. Both Netscape 9beta[1] and Fire Fox; Have yet to show any bad "habits"!, Except for Swapping over (manually) some of my Favorite BookMarks!. The bookmark ,in the drop down, went on "Hiatus' and returned when it felt like it!.
The real Problem "now" seems to Be the Internet and Mail providers!.
Time Warner's: AOL/AIM, Should work For N.A.S.A.
Or the S.E.T.I., program, because, They(aol/aim, Have convinced Me that "ALIENS" DEEP IN SPACE ARE THE ONE'S READING AND GETTING MY MAIL!.
HOPEFULLY BETA 9 WILL WORK AND KEEP ON WORKING CORRECTLY, AS SHOULD FIRE FOX, I AM MORE THAN HAPPY TOO MOVE OUT OF NETSCAPE 7.2!; EITHER WILL DO , OR EVEN BETTER JUST FIX WHAT ARE SEEMINGLY MINOR GLITCHES IN NS version 7.2!
So Good luck to those of you at Netscape communications and Mozilla, These Two{2} Browser are a 1,000% Improvement over BETA 8!.
And hopefully AIM/AOL, will hire someone with a "BRAIN!.
I, for one, do not miss the mail tool of Netscape. I think version 9.0 is a stellar release. It's fast, it's intuitive, and it looks great. There's always SeaMonkey for those wishing for integrated e-mail in their browser.
Funny. All I can read here is a bunch of noobs (nothing wrong about being a noob, I was one too) complaining about "no mail tool"-whatever that means.
Navigator 9 is what Navigator 6 should have been but never was. Leave everything to Mozilla, play with money in hideous designs (Netscape 8, that is you), then come back, get Mozilla's Firefox add a few bells and whistles which most of us will not use, and you have, ta daaa, Navigator 9!
I am using it because I have a psychological attachment to the N logo, just like everyone who started this journey with Netscape years ago.
Oh, folks: a browser is just that: a browser. Stick with your "Suites", "KISS" stuff, Sea Monkeys or whatever. Bashing Navigator for not having an email client is like blaming Dubya because he is not smart.
I had been using netscape navigator for so long, now will try with the latest version, hope it will entertain more!
Hi,
Can u guys enable shift+enter link save feature from netscape 7, as far as i know it is not available in either ns8 or ns9. It is very useful in some occasions. (eg: when u are redirected to a big downloadable file, but netscape displays a big pile of ascii code, rather than allow you to download )...
- Thanx
URL Correction problem: NS Navigator 9 suggests http://www.net.hu/ instead of http://www.met.hu/
It's good to see that Netscape is still in the game. Congrats to the whole team over there - I'll be testing this version real soon.
The latest news is built right into the browser, under the News menu.
