how long would it be till the first beta of the new messenger is coming? i surely try the alpha (i`m netscape addicted ;-) but i look for a more stable version.

Glad to see things are coming along with the new Netscape Mail program. I like the name and logo too; Netscape Messenger sounds much better to me than Netscape Mercury. Unfortunately I can't respond to your question about social networking features in a very educated manner, because I really am not sure what you're referring to. I'm open to new ideas, though, so I'd like to see what the development team might have in mind for social features before I say whether I think it's a good idea or not.
I'm so glad that it's finally released I have found a few small bugs that is to be expected in an alpha version but all in all it seems like a great mail client and I'm sure the final release will have no bugs at all!!
