So sad to see the end of the browser that started it all. I suppose it's for the best - after all, the market only has room for so many browsers, and I'm glad you're throwing your support behind Firefox at least. Anything to take market share away from IE. Rest in Peace Navigator.
Another Feather in Microsofts hat. To have another browser give up. I'm sure they will be thrilled with this news.
time to say goodbye. you made a great job with the netscape navigator, i loved him. my best wishes for your future projects.

crazy world ... just launched the new version 9 and now the public ending .... crazy world
But it MUST release a version 10! We can't let Opera be the first browser to make it to that magic milestone!
If only Netscape did a *final* release based on Firefox 3 and called it Netscape 10 then that would be the proper endgame! A Netscape that PASSES THE ACID2 TEST!!!eleventyone!
Sad day, though granted the code base does live on. The guys over at Mozilla are doing a great job on Firefox. And there is a plugin to render pages in IE within Firefox, if you need to for some reason.
We'll continue to release security patches for the current version of the browser, Netscape Navigator until February 1, 2008. After February 1 - I agree good decision!
I remember using Netscape versions 2 - 4 in the mid 90's. Why did Netscape do away with the great captain wheel splash screen and nice throbber icon in he corner of the browser? It may not have been the best technological wise but version 3 will always be the "real Netscape" to me.
If you not going to support the browser anymore I really don't see the need for the portal to tell the truth. Why can't the Netscape name be turned over to the Mozilla Foundation? To me the name Netscape as always seemed more "official" than Firefox and I run into that same branding loyality with long time Netscape users who don't understand the whole confusing story of Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox.
I sure would love to see Mozilla take back Netscape and repackage it without all the extra AOL and other stuff plus I would love to see the old captains wheel return.
So sad to see the end of the browser that started it all. Your right but what we can do? nothing just watch how ends. Regards
All good things must come to an end some day.
As it is explained in the news, the last version of Netscape is nothing more than a skin above Firefox and some extensions added to it by default. Everyone there should be fine with Firefox, as it is said. Or so I believe. I wish a great future for Mozilla Fundation that is doing such a great job.
Yes it's sad news... Cheers
Sad to be sure, but after getting away from the simplicity of NS v7.2, it was bound to happen.
I tried version 8, and finally got so tired of all the waiting, and slow loading, that I just gave up using it. While timeand words escape me, NS 8 was just too complicated for my liking.
I'm back to using IE6, and will probably stay using it until I'm forced to use IE7, or newer.
I do however miss having tabs. NS definitely had a better browser, and now, thanks to AOL, I suppose it's time to play Taps. sigh.... leave it to AOL to destroy everything they put their hands on.
Well, it's not all that surprising. In fact, it's a move that I have seen coming for sometime. Netscape is a quality browser, but it's also considered by many to be an antiquated browser. Despite the validity of such a statement, a brand's image is really the most important thing. I actually quite liked the recent Navigator 9 but I did eventually return to Firefox.

Ths is just a case of "The King is dead, long live the king".
That this moment would come is inevitable from the start of mozilla.org
Probably Seamonkey is more like what Navigator was.
