With the new year in full swing, tonight's chat is going to be focusing on the year ahead. Join me back here at 7pm EST and we'll discuss any New Year's resolutions we've made (and when we think they'll be broken), what we did to ring in the year, and the things we're most looking forward to among other topics.

So gather your thoughts, and then meet me back here at 7pm EST and we'll talk 2007 in the first official Netscape chat of the year.

It's that time of the week again, Netscape's weekly chat is upon us once more. This week we're going to be continuing our holiday themed chat from last week. What's your favorite holiday memory? What's the best present you've ever received? What's the worst? These are just some of the questions I'll be asking this week, so gather your thoughts and then meet me back here at 7pm EST for Netscape Chat.

Then next week we'll be doing our 2006 Year-In-Review chat, so make sure to start putting together what you think have been the most notable points of the year in preparation. See you tonight!

The Wonderful World Of Chat

For about the past month, Netscape has had an amazing chat feature that has largely gone unnoticed, but starting this Thursday that's all going to change. That's when we'll be hosting Netscape's first official open chat. For this initial session, we're going to concentrate on the top stories and talk about the site some, but we're always looking ahead, so if you have any suggestions for future themed sessions, or live sessions during events (awards shows, sporting events, elections, etc), please don't hesitate to suggest.

I'll be your host this Thursday, but some of Netscape's other Anchors and Navigators will probably be stopping by as well. So bring your voice, opinions and excitement, and meet me back here at 7pm EST on Thursday where we'll talk about this week's top stories together. Then join me back here next Thursday where we will continue the new open chat as a regular weekly feature. See you on Thursday!

Coming Soon: Netscape Chat--Update: Now Live!

UPDATE: Chat is now live on the site!

In addition to our Netscape threaded comment system, via which you can communicate with other members about stories, and our messaging system, via which you can send messages to your friends on Netscape, we're adding a new feature very soon: Netscape Chat.

Figure 1: The link to Netscape Chat will appear directly beneath the Today's Hot Stories headline, across from the link to our On Deck page.

Thanks to our developers and some help from our friends over at Userplane, we'll have a static chat room on the homepage of Netscape. If you're a logged in member of Netscape, you can launch the chat and join a live discussion of the top story on Netscape. If everyone is bored with that top story, there will be a list of the top 5 stories with links to all of them. Best of all, it all updates live, so as the ranking on the site changes, everyone in the chatroom will know as the top story listing changes, and the discussion can move on from topic to topic. The chatroom will fall under the normal guidelines set forth for participating in the Netscape Community as outlined in our Terms of Use, and Anchors will check in from time to time to make sure no one is abusing the system as well as to participate in the conversation. As with your comments on the site, please keep the conversation civil or you risk having your chat privileges revoked or a possible ban from the site.

We hope Netscape Chat will provide another way for our community to grow and discuss the news on Netscape, and we hope you all like it. As always, if you have any ideas about how we could make it better, let us know. We're all ears.
